1. Deciding to dress casual or formal for your headshots.

   • Either way, a great photographer can make your images look professional. If you simply would like to wear a T-shirt, just try to avoid logos and graphics. Otherwise, a well-fitted T-shirt can be cropped up close to easily make a headshot look professional. On the other hand, if you love rocking a blazer, tie, and dress shirt, we recommend coordinating your colors. Try to avoid more than one accent color. Use complimentary colors or go neutral adding a pop of color as accent!

2. Add some color!

   • Adding a pop of color helps your headshots stand out. Minimize the number of colors and focus on a single accent. This can be done by wearing a jacket with some color and keeping your base neutral or going neutral everywhere else but adding a fun tie.

3. Note on accessories!

   • Add some flare with a necklace, bracelet, or rings. Just try not to overdo it as we don’t want to distract from your face!

Sleep! Eye bags can be softened in post, but there is only so much that can be done without making the image look fake. Make sure to get proper night of sleep before!

Drink water. Drinking water helps you avoid breakouts the day of. However, do not sweat a breakout. A decent editor will be able to take care of this with ease.

Try on outfits. You want to make sure that your outfit fits well and that you are actually happy with it on. If you have not worn the blazer in two years, try that thing on!

We recommend looking across a few portfolios. Choosing a headshot photographer is similar to choosing a tattoo artist… minus the permanent part! Consistency is a top priority. When looking through a body of work or portfolio, look for consistencies in editing style and quality. If this is difficult to pinpoint, you may want to consider another photographer!
